Modeling the Objects: The Pot
Overview:
|
Using a CV Curve Tool (Create>CV Curve Tool...3 Cubic), draw out the profile of our pot.
z
Make sure Construction History is turned on. With this curve selected, use Surface>Revolve to create a NURB surface.

This gives us the following type of result:

Feel free to make some tweaks to the curve to perfect your pot o' gold.
For the feet of the pot, create a simple NURB sphere and NURB cylinder as shown.

To blend these two together, we'll use a 'Surface Fillet'. Select the sphere then the cyliner and then go to Edit NURBs>Surface Fillet>Circular Filler. This creates a smooth interpolated surface between the two NURBs. Nudge the cylinder to the left as shown.

Select the CVs of the top part of the cylinder, scale them inward, and translate them in the Y axis to make it look more like a ... uh... foot of a cauldron, of course! Hey, what are you snickering at?

Let's delete the history of these objects, group them and scale them down. So we position it as a foot on our pot.

We need to get the pivot point of this foot to the center. The easy way to to do this is to simply group it again. The scale and rotate pivot will move to the center. Now we'll make a few copies of the foot and rotate them around the base of the pot.

Now for the rainbow. Let's create a NURBs plane.

To it we will add a non-linear Bend.

I used the value of 1.7 for the curvature. For it to do anything, however, we need to rotate it:

Delete the History of the NURB Plane, and scale/position it into place:

That's it for this section!
