Creating a station ID in Maya and After Effects

Modeling the Objects: The Logo

Overview:

  • Import the logo into Maya
  • Select the appropriate curves and use Bevel Plus to bevel and extrude our logo

This will be pretty simple. We just need to import and extrude our logo. We need to make sure that our logo is either Illustrator or EPS version 8 or earlier from Illustrator. Also, even though this logo is a "4", do not try to import anything that has a filename that starts with a "4" or any other number. Maya doesn't like it.

So, here is our logo:

Selecting the outer curve, and the intermediate '4' curve, go to "Surfaces>Bevel Plus. I am using Polygons for this. You can go into 'Output Options' to change that.

With the innermost curve selected, bevel this as well. Notice the bevelling is a little bit smaller here.

And the 4 curve is next. Bevel it as well, and pull it out just a little bit.

That was easy. I wish all modeling was like that.
