If you’ve not heard, Red Giant and Trapcode have released Trapcode Form 2! I’m so very proud to have had a hand in this.
Many ask if I am involved in the programming of these projects. I’m certainly not a programmer, even though I’m big expressions nerd. My role is more about brainstorming new ideas, functions, tools, and how those are integrated, how they are functional. Plus, lots of testing, testing and more testing.
Once the plug-in begins to take shape, we start to focus on marketing it. That’s where I worked on two new tutorials and a commercial video.
What’s New in Form 2?
• Bring OBJ’s into After Effects with Form’s support for 3D models and 3D sequences
• Get the Particular 2 features you love, like Textured Polygon and Streaklet particle types
• Illuminate your particles with Shading for visual depth and tight integration to AE lights
• Full Layer Map support gives advanced animation control over particle size, rotation and color
• Expanded Spherical Field features let you distort a sphere into any elliptical shape
Harry, how can I have my “Visualize Field” show up as a blue sphere under “Spherical Field” option in Trapcode Form 2.0 like I have seen in one of your Tuts?
Good question. Because this field has changed to a three dimensional area with rotation controls, this visible shaded area was changed to the current method, an RGB wireframe, which RGB representing XY&Z.
OK. Thanks!
I did ask through Redgiant Support as well, so they may bug you with my inquiry!
I have the academic version of trapcode form from the academic trapcode suite and I was wondering how I get the upgrade?
Just call Red Giant to work out the details. I am sure they will work with your academic license.

amazing. ill look forward for more posts thank you
Thx for this nice Tutorial, Harry. But how do i control the amount of particles when using an obj-object? I guess the particles are mapped on to the vertex, right? When i bring in a text object from cinema i just got a few particles around on the outlines. I’ve already tried to use the regular grid function and then triangulate the text-object with no success… any ideas?
If you want MORE particles, you’d have to subdivide the 3D object in Cinema to add more particles. Perhaps if you are extruding a spline, just subdivide the spline more.
hey,Harry ,a nice tuts, thks. By the way ,could you tell me your way to be a advancer in AE ? i have been learned AE for 6 months. I will be very grateful if you can reply me .
Yo Harry – can you clarify how to bring up the eye-dropper color selection window? I chose the “blue” mode with the three color selectors, but I want to change it to another part of the spectrum (other than blue) and I can’t quite tell what you’re clicking on to bring that up. Basic but frustrating! Thanks!
Hey Harry.. I wanted to know is it possible to line up a animated obj from a 3d scene that has been created.. say you have a sphere in the scene and u exported it as an obj.. and u want to overlay that sphere created in form over the 3d rendered sphere from the 3d app.. The camera has been imported as well.. but i noticed the obj is very small n i tried making it larger n that works fine but then i i need to go to the world transform n end up offest the y n x axis.. n it still doesnt line up perfectly. .any ideas would b appreciated
I believe Peder did a walkthrough of this… Maybe this will help?
