TV Land Prime “Feels Good”
This is a new spot introducing a new look and feel to TV Land Prime and a new tag line: “Feels Good”. The spot was a challenging task of taking a great edit, and mapping that to a series of cubes in a vast 3D world. In the end, we opted for a simple approach of letting the edit stand on its own, with some graphics interspersed, and saving most of the animation work for the final tag line. The client wanted lots of color, so I opted for a bit of a mid 80s Robert Abel feel with the logo resolve.

nice spot!
Is it missplaced in the tutorial section?
Indeed it was. Thanks.

Hi Harry,
I love this spot! I’m hoping you might be able to help me out. I’ve been after the same sort of effect you’ve achieved in the logo reveal on and off for a couple of months, in that I mean cutting up text and being able to animate the individual pieces together. Are you a Cinema 4D guy by chance and if so, would you mind sharing some technique advice on how you accomplished that look? I’d really appreciate it!
Thanks in advance. I’m a regular visitor to your site and love your work. I met you at NAB w years ago at your zaxwerks presentation as well and your expressions series changed my life:)
Hope to hear from you soon!
Best,

Hi Ryan. I am so glad I’ve been able to help you out! Maybe I can do that again here.
This was indeed all Cinema 4D. What I did was cut up the logo in Illustrator (pretty much like the Reverse Shatter tutorial on my site) and extrude all of the pieces separately. The videos were all placed in C4D as well, as they was way easier than using external compositing techniques (considering the odd shapes and perspective overlaps). There needed to be a few more “bonus” cubes to fill it in a little that scale away during the transition.
The only other thing that really helped the effect was using some drastic camera field of view settings during the move. Plus, LOTS of particles. The shimmer effect is a render pass I did of a light, then I used Find Edges in After Effects to just show the corners and edges, then I used a heavy 32-bit glow effect to bring these edges out.
Hope that helps!!
You can also hire a FREELANCER.. to help you out! Haha.. Either way, best of luck!
like the color scheme, nice retro feel that carries well into the animation sequence
Sweet ending!
Hey The background at the end seems simple enough but the blue and purple scheme actuly very well made, it looks more complicated than a simple ramp effects could you elaborate as to how you did the blue background at the very end?
Also what are the little light streaks flying towards the cam at the end? Particular? fractal noise? seems like a mix of both.
@LambertG, the background is exactly that, an AE ramp effect. It’s using Radial ramp with a lighter color on the inside and darker color on the outside (something I often do). There are some purple highlights on the edges using Knoll Light Factory.
The streaks at the end are entirely Particular, with some Shine and Knoll Light Factory in the center. That kind of “Shooter” effect is created by having a box emitter emit directional particles toward the camera, and then add the trails with the Aux System. Then, as I usually do, pump the project up to 32 bpc and and some heavy Glow on the particles.
